Maria’s trip draait uit op fiasco!
Zelfs de nr. 63 op de WTA ranglijst Elena Vesnina was voor Maria een niet te nemen horde in de 2e ronde van de CHINA OPEN 2010.
Was het in Tokyo al direct exit in de 1e ronde, in Beijing was het al niet veel beter.
Er werd nog wel gewonnen van Tsvetana Pironkova, maar de Russische Vesnina was duidelijk een maatje te groot voor een totaal uit forme verkerende Maria.
Voor de fans en Maria zelf een grote teleurstelling.
Maria was echter na de wedstrijd vol lof over haar tegenstandster.
Maria:
I’m definitely not as good as I wanted to be.
After the US Open I wasn’t able to train as much as I would’ve wanted to, and I feel like the last couple of weeks I’ve just been trying to play catch-up. My rhythm hasn’t been where it should be. Obviously it’s disappointing, but I’ve lost and won many matches in my career. I’ll just have to regroup.”
“I have to give a lot of credit to my opponent. She played extremely well, the best she has played against me. She was really aggressive and hit the ball really deep and consistently today.
I was never really able to do the things I do. She served extremely well and had me off-balance.
It was definitely her day.”

aankomen tegen Elena Vesnina.

Met de hakken over de sloot.
Drievoudig grandslam winnares Maria Sharapova bereikte vandaag met veel pijn en moeite de 2e ronde in Beijing.
Maria lijkt zo langzamerhand af te zakken naar de grijze middenmoot. Tegen Pironkova in de openingsronde van de China Open wist ze de 1e set met 6-4 te winnen en in de 2e set leek er geen vuiltje aan de lucht toen ze een comfortabele 3-0 voorsprong nam.
Maar de Bulgaarse vocht zich knap terug naar 4-4 en toen Maria zelfs 2 matchpoint kreeg wist ze de game toch nog naar winst om te buigen.
De tiebreak moest uiteindelijk de beslissing brengen en Maria nam een snelle 3-0 voorspong.
Tsvetana Pironkova nam echter al snel de regie over en kwam terug tot 4-4.Bij 6-4 kreeg Maria dan eindelijk haar 2 zwaar bevochten matchpoints en wist er xc3xa9xc3xa9n te verzilveren.
In de 2e ronde treft Maria haar landgenote Elena Vesnina.

“Going down in the first round of Tokyo gives you a window to prepare but it also doesn’t give you as much match play as you would have hoped.
First rounds are always difficult, and I had a tough opponent today.
At the end of the day, I found a way to win and that was the most important thing.

China Open 2010 draw released.
The draw for the China Open in Beijing has been released and Maria is seeded No.12 and will play Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria in the 1st round. Maria has played the Bulgarian twice before and leads the series 2-0. The last meeting was at the US Open last year which Maria won 6-3 6-0.
The first seed Maria can meet is No.8 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the 3rd round.
Beijing is a premier mandatory tournament played on hardcourts and Maria has played here 3 times before and her best result was reaching the semis in 2004 and 2005. Last year Maria reached the 3rd round.
