Snelle uitschakeling in Moskou

Moscow,10 october 2007:

Het wil maar niet lukken met Maria in Moskou.Evenals voorgaande jaren moest Maria ook nu weer het toernooi vroegtijdig verlaten.
In een lange eerste set, die in de tiebreak in Azarenka’s voordeel werd beslist ( 11-9 ) kon Maria in de 2e set geen vuist meer maken.

Maria speelde vandaag met tape op haar schouder.

Het was Maria’s eerste wedstrijd na haar uitschakeling op de US Open.
De tweevoudige Grand Slam winnares was vandaag echter geen schim van de Maria, zoals we haar uit die periode kennen.
Ze maakte maar liefst 45 onnodige fouten en 7 dubbele fouten op eigen service.
Gebrek aan wedstrijdritme kwam in de tweede set dan ook pijnlijk aan de oppervlakte.

10 october 2007: Maria verliest haar eerste wedstrijd om
de Kremlin Cup van Victoria Azarenka

Maria gaat zich nu voorbereiden op de Zurich Open,waar zij haar titel van 2006 zal verdedigen.

Moscow,9 october 2007:

Maria is making her comeback this week at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow.
Maria is seeded #2 and receives a bye in the 1st round. In the 2nd round Maria will play Victoria Azarenka ( BLR # 32 WTA rankinglist.)
This match will be played on Wednesday 10 october.

The 2st seed Maria can meet is #7 seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in the quarters. Defending champion and #3 seed Anna Chakvetadze of Russia or #6 seed Amelie Mauresmo could loom in the semis. Top seed Svetlana Kuznetsova and Serena Williams of the United States round off the draw in the top half. The Kremlin Cup is the 1st event of the indoor season for Maria and is a tier 1 alongside Zurich.

There are big points on offer in Moscow this week which Maria needs to assure her place at the WTA Tour Championships in Madrid in November.
