Maria (nog) niet bestand tegen service-geweld Williams !

Uiteindelijk moest Maria buigen voor het service kanon Williams.De nr.1 van de wereld produceerde de ene ace na de andere ( totaal 19 stuks ) tegen 3 van Maria,maar toch werd de wedstrijd beslist in de 1e set door een nipte winst in de tiebreak en door een slordige service game van Maria in de 2e set.
Daardoor kon Williams de beslissende break maken en stond deze niet meer af,maar het zegt voldoende over het uitstekende spel van Maria deze middag.

28 juni 2010:Maria speelde vandaag uitstekend maar had geen
antwoord op het service geweld van Williams.

Williams wacht in 4e ronde !

Pas in de 12e game van de eerste set kon Maria eindelijk de beslissende break maken en de set met 7-5 winnen,maar wat moest ze diep gaan om Zahlavova te overtreffen.
In de 2e set ging het iets gemakkelijker,maar het vertoonde spel geeft niet echt vertrouwen om met een gerust hart tegen Serena Williams aan te treden.

26 juni 2010:Maria worstelt zich naar 4e ronde.

De afgelopen 2 jaar vloog Maria er op Wimbledon steeds in de 2e ronde uit.Zover liet ze het vanmiddag gelukkig niet komen.
Met ijzersterk spel in de 1e set ( 6-1 ) en met iets meer weerstand van Olaru in de tweede kon Maria uiteindelijk opgelucht ademhalen en bereikte de 3e ronde.

24 juni 2010:Maria bereikt na 2 jaar nu wel de 3e ronde op Wimbledon.

"I kind of backed up and let her back in the match.
I knew that coming into this match that last year I was on the plane the next day. I really thought about it, especially toward the end of the match. So I was really excited to get through."

MARIA EASES THROUGH AT WIMBLEDON

Maria started her Wimbledon campaign with a win as she defeated Anastasia Pivovarova 6-1 6-0 on Court 2. Maria needed only 54 minutes to defeat the Russian lucky loser.

Maria was never in trouble throughout the match against an opponent who was playing only their 2nd tournament on grass.

The only game Maria dropped was when Pivovarova held her serve in the 6th game of the first set. Maria was serving well throughout the match and won 94% of points on 1st serve and 65% on 2nd serve. Maria also had an impressive 72% of points won at net.

In the 2nd round to be played on Thursday, Maria will play Ioana Raluca Olaru of Romania. They have never played before.

WIMBLEDON DRAW RELEASED

The draw for Wimbledon has been released and Maria is seeded #16 and will play Kateryna Bondarenko of the Ukraine in the 1st round. Maria has never played Bondarenko before and this match will be played on Tuesday.

The 1st seed Maria can meet is #24 seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia in the 3rd round. Maria is seeded to meet top seed and defending champion Serena Williams of the United States in the 4th round.
Wimbledon is the 3rd Grand Slam of the year and is the only Grand Slam played on grass and ends the very short grass court season. Wimbledon is the only tournament in the world were there is a dress code, all players have to wear white.

Maria made her debut here in 2003 and caused a storm as she reached the 4th round as a wildcard. Maria then won the next year in only her 2nd appearance and since then has 2 semi appearances and a 2nd round showing last year.

Maria in finale op alle fronten afgetroefd.

In de 1e set kon Maria de Chinese Na Li nog enigzins bijbenen,maar in de 2e set gooide Maria al snel de handdoek in de ring.
Van haar prima service de afgelopen dagen in Birmingham, waar de ene na de andere ace van haar racket kwam was vanmiddag niets meer te zien.
Veel dubbele fouten op het scorebord en op haar 2e service kon Maria amper een puntje winnen.
Na Li was daarom zonder twijfel de terechte winnaar.
Kortom,voor alle Sharapova fans een finale om snel te vergeten.

Maria gaat zich de komende week op het 3e Grand Slam toernooi van het seizoen Wimbledon voorbereiden.

13 juni 2010:Maria verliest in 2 sets kansloos van de Chinese Na Li.

“Even though the first set was close, I was in trouble from early on and gave her too many looks at second serves.

The goal here was to get as many matches as I could on grass. I would have loved to win but she was the better player today. She did many things better than me and returned great.”

Maria in Finale van Birmingham.

De dubbele fouten zijn verdwenen, de aces terug en Maria rekende vanmiddag in 3 sets met de sensatie van het toernooi, Alison Riske af.
De Amerikaanse zorgde gisteren nog voor de grootste verrassing door de Belgische Yanina Wickmayer te verslaan.
Maria was dus gewaarschuwd.

In de tweede set liet Maria zich echter met een break verrassen, kreeg wel de kansen om terug te breken maar Riske pakte uiteindelijk toch de 2e set.
In de 3e set kon Maria toeslaan en eindigde de set met een ace en 6-1 winst.

Morgen in de finale ontmoet Maria Na Li. Vorig jaar verloor Maria nog van deze Chinese in de halve finale van Birmingham en zal dus zeker op revenge uit zijn.

12 juni 2010:Maria verslaat Alison Riske in 3 sets

“Her game suits the grass courts and she’s been playing some really good tennis this week, said Maria of the world No.185. Alison Riske.
I let her back into the match and credit to her – she did a great job of executing that set, stayed with her game plan and kept attacking. I definitely had to change things around in the third set and step it up a bit.

Maria and her changes against Li in the final:

“It will be good to play her again.
A year makes a big difference. I certainly don’t like losing to the same person twice in a row – I’m a big competitor. I’m certainly going to try to turn that around.”

9 & 10 june 2010

Regen spelbreker in Birmingham.

Door het slechte weer in Birmingham viel het speelschema letterlijk in figuurlijk in het water.Vandaag moest Maria in haar 2e partij van de dag het opnemen tegen landgenote Alla Kudryavtseva die haar in 2008 nog verrassend op Wimbledon in de 2e ronde had uitgeschakeld.

Zover liet Maria het vandaag echter niet komen en werd de Russische in 2 sets van het gras gemaaid.
Maria lijkt met haar service helemaal terug te zijn.Ze sloeg maar liefst 11 aces en daar tegenover stonden slechts 2 dubbele foutjes.

Eerder op de dag rekende Maria al af met Bethanie Mattek-Sands en daardoor staat ze morgen in de kwartfinale tegenover Sesil Karatantcheva.

10 juni 2010:Vandaag kon Maria in Birmingham weer
2 zeges toevoegen aan haar imposante overwinningslijst.

The draw for the AEGON Classic in Birmingham, UK has been released and Maria is seeded #2 and has a bye in the 1st round. In the 2nd round, Maria will play either Alberta Brianti of Italy or Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States. This match will be played on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The 1st seed Maria can meet is #16 seed Vania King of the United States in the 3rd round.

Maria has made 7 visits to Birmingham and she won the event in 2004 and 2005. Last year Maria reached the semis.
