Ook snelle uitschakeling in Indian Wells.
Kroop Maria tegen Vera Dushevina nog door het oog van de naald, tegen het bijtertje Jie Zheng viel Maria opnieuw in een belangrijk toernooi door de mand.
Maria had vanmiddag makkelijk kunnen winnen maar gaf de 1e set veel te gemakkelijk weg.
In de 2e set stelde Maria nog wel orde op zaken, maar mede door een belabberde service kon ze toch veel te weinig druk zetten op de Chinese.
Aan het eind van de wedstrijd stonden er 14 dubbele fouten op het scorebord.
Maria liet zich bij een 3-2 voorsprong in de 3e set behandelen aan een elleboog blessure.Zheng, de nr. 18 van de plaatsingslijst had echter geen boodschap aan Mariaxe2x80x99s lichamelijke ongemakken en gaf daarna geen game meer prijs.
Mariaxe2x80x99s volgende optreden is het Sony Ericsson toernooi in Miami.
Als de Russische haar niveau niet snel kan verbeteren zal ze voorlopig met een plaats in de subtop genoegen moeten nemen.

Maria moeizaam naar 3e ronde.
Maria moest vandaag alle zeilen bijzetten om de 3e ronde in Indian Wells te bereiken.
De 1e set ging met 4-6 naar de Russische Vera Dushevina en in de 2e set was Maria maar twee punten verwijderd van verlies.
Toch wist ze het wedstrijdverloop nog naar haar hand te zetten en sloeg ze in de 3e set uiteindelijk, na meer dan twee uur spelen beslissend toe. ( 6-2 )
Maria speelt in de 3e ronde tegen de Chinese Jie Zheng.In januari speelde Maria in de Hong Kong Classic ook al tegen Zheng en wist toen in 3 sets te winnen.
12 march 2010:Maria wint moeizaam van Vera Dushevina.

"I started really slow. I was kind of giving her the match, to be honest, and wasn't doing anything well, just making errors.
But to be honest, I think it was good for me to have one of these matches. And being down today 15/30, she's two points away from winning the match, I turned things around. So I can only look ahead and definitely started playing better towards the end of the match, and that's what counts the most."

Indian Wells Draw Released.
The draw for the first premier mandatory event of 2010 has been released. Maria will be playing the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells and she is seeded #10 and has a bye in the 1st round. In the 2nd round, Maria will play either Jelena Dokic of Australia or Vera Dushevina of Russia. This match will be played on Friday.
Maria has played both Dokic and Dushevina once before and won both matches. The 1st seed Maria can meet is #18 seed Jie Zheng of China in the 3rd round and is seeded to meet #7 seed Na Li of China in the 4th round.
