Maria in boeiend gevecht strijdend ten onder !
Maria beheerste de rally’s,sloeg meer winners dan Wozniacki en dwong haar tegenstandster tot ver achter de baseline tot verdedigend spel.Dat deed de Deense trouwens uitstekend en was in haar spel veel constanter dan Maria.
De service van Maria gaf uiteindelijk de doorslag tot verlies. Als je de zuur verdiende punten door b.v. drie dubbele fouten achter elkaar weer zo gemakkelijk weggeeft,kan je niet winnen tegen de als nr. 1 geplaatste Wozniacki.
Maria’s volgend toernooi is The Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, welke 26 september a.s. van start gaat.Een week later gevolgd door de China Open in Beijing.
6 september 2010:Maria sneuvelt in 4e ronde tegen Caroline Wozniacki.

“Even with those errors, I still had my chances. I was one for eight on break points. Against someone that’s playing with a lot of confidence, it’s really important to take the chances that are coming your way.
She was able to use many things to her advantage today. She’s retrieving a lot of balls, serving really well and using the wind. I wasn’t able to capitalize.
Obviously it has been a bit unfortunate at the Grand Slams. I’ve had my fair share of chances and didn’t take them throughout the year in the big events. That’s just the way it has gone.
But keep moving forward…”

Maria kent geen genade tegen Beatrice Capra.
Met een double bagel maakte Maria vanmiddag in het stormachtige Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York een eind aan het optreden van Beatrice Capra aan de US Open.
De talentvolle tiener kreeg aan het eind van de 1e set en het begin van de 2e set nog wel een aantal breakpunten,speelde heel verdienstelijk,maar kon uiteindelijk geen game van Maria winnen.
Maandag ontmoet Maria de als nr 1 geplaatste Caroline Wozniacki.
Maria leidt de onderlinge confrontatie met de Deense wel met 2-0, maar behaalde dit resultaat in 2008,toen Wozniacki nog niet de topper was de ze nu is.
Al met al een wedstrijd om naar uit te kijken.

Zonder problemen naar de 3e ronde.
Maria had vandaag meer last van de wind dan van haar tegenstandster Iveta Benesova.
De Tsjechische kon niet meer dan 3 games winnen van Maria, ondanks een matige eerste opslag.
Zaterdag moet Maria het opnemen tegen de 18 jarige tiener xe2x80x9cCapra-Cadabraxe2x80x9d !
Zij bereikte via een wildcard verrassend de 3e ronde van de US Open.

” “I had to be consistent today, because I’m playing a lefty,” said Maria, who is now 10-0 against lefties in Grand Slams since losing to Emilie Loit at the Open in 2003.
It was a little gusty out there. It’s just important to hang in there and not go for the lines as much, just try to be a little more consistent.”

Maria heeft 3 sets nodig om 2e ronde te bereiken.
Maria heeft vandaag in de zinderende hitte van New York de 2e ronde bereikt door de Australische Jarmila Groth in 3 sets te verslaan.
In de 1e set kon Maria aanvankelijk haar ritme niet vinden en verloor de set met 4-6.
Verder liet Maria het echter niet komen en kan ze het a.s. donderdag opnemen tegen Iveta Benesova.
Beide speelsters kwamen elkaar 2x eerder tegen Maria leidt de onderlinge confrontatie met 2-0

“She ( Groth ) really swung and didn’t give me much time to do anything out there,” Maria said of the first set.
Against a player like that, who plays the 1-2 punch type of tennis, it’s quite difficult to get a rhythm in the beginning, but I just hung in there. I knew it wasn’t over. I knew I still had my chances.”

US OPEN DRAW RELEASED
The draw for the 4th and final Grand Slam of the year at the US Open in New York has been released and Maria is the No.14 seed and will play Jarmila Groth of Australia in the 1st round. In official competition they have played before at Los Angeles last year on hardcourts and Maria won 6-0 6-4. This match will be played on Monday.
If Maria can win that match she will play either Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic or a qualifier in the 2nd round. The first seed Maria can meet is #18 seed Aravane Rezai of France in the 3rd round. In the 4th round, Maria is scheduled to meet top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in the 4th round.
Maria has played the US Open 6 times before and of course her best performance was winning here in 2006. Last year Maria lost in the 3rd round to Melanie Oudin.
