Titel in Memphis voor Maria.
Maria heeft vandaag in Memphis haar 21e carrixc3xa8re titel veroverd tegen de goed spelende qualifier Sofia Arvidsson.Zij schakelde immers de mede titelkandidaat Melanie Oudin verrassend uit.
Na haar snelle uitschakeling in Melbourne heeft Maria zich uitstekend hersteld en speelde in Memphis een uitstekend toernooi, zonder ook maar xc3xa9xc3xa9n set gedurende haar 5 partijen prijs te geven.

"I feel great. I came here for matches – I got five and I got the win, so it was a good week.
I served and returned well, two things that are very important indoors.
I also did the right things against Sofia today.I worked hard after the Australian Open and little by little things are coming along."

MARIA ADVANCES TO MEMPHIS FINAL
Maria beat Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-4 6-3 to advance to the final in Memphis.
The match lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes.
In the first set there were 5 breaks of serve, 3 by Maria and 2 by Kvitova. Maria won a relatively low 65% on first serve and 43% on second serve, while serving 74% of first serves in.
19 Februari 2010: Maria into Memphis final.
In the second set, Maria was broken in the opening game but was able to break back to tie the set at 2. Both players held serve until the 7th game, but then Maria was able to break again to take a 5-3 lead, serving out the match in the next game.
Maria was significantly more aggressive on her serve in the second set. Her first serve percentage dropped to 52%, she won 67% of point on first serve, only slightly better than in the first set, but she won 64% of point on second serve.
Maria’s opponent in the final is Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden, they have only played once and Maria won, but that was in 2003 in Luxembourg.

Ook in de 2e ronde kende Maria vandaag weinig problemen om zich te ontdoen van de Amerikaanse Bethanie Mattek-Sands.Hoewel de setstanden anders doen vermoeden had Maria volgens haar toch de nodige moeite om de kwartfinale te bereiken.

"I wanted to stay consistent but aggressive at the same time.
Bethanie has taken me to three sets before. I knew I had to play great tennis to beat her.
I did a good job of not letting her get into her zone."

Maria heeft haar 1e wedstrijd in Memphis eenvoudig met 6-0 en 6-2 gewonnen van de Amerikaanse Shenay Perry .Maria had 51 minuten nodig om de 2e ronde te bereiken.
Haar tegenstandster a.s.woensdag is de 25 jarige Bethanie Mattek-Sands, en in de onderlinge confrontatie leidt Maria met 3-0.

"It’s just the beginning of the season, so right now I’m really trying to build with each match and work on my game.
I don’t think any match is easy. You still have to go out and win the match. Today wasn’t easy.
I thought I was very aggressive.To play every point with a strong mentality in every match, it’s impossible to keep going up, up, up and hit a winner on every single ball.
So, when I did feel like I maybe missed a few, I still was going for it. I wasn’t tentative."

Memphis draw released.
The draw for the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships & The Cellular South Cup in Memphis has been released and Maria is the top seed and will play Shenay Perry of the United States in the 1st round. Maria has played Perry twice before – both times in challengers in 2002 and 2003 and the series is tied 1-1. This match will be played on Monday night at 19.00 local time.
The first seed Maria can meet is #8 seed Elena Baltacha of Great Britain in the quarters. #3 seed Kaia Kanepi of Estonia or #5 seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic could be a possible opponent in the semis. #2 seed Melanie Oudin of the United States and #4 seed Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic are in the bottom half of the draw.
Memphis is played indoors and is an International $220K event and Maria has played once before in 2004 and reached the semis.
